DEC NOTICE

New Click here for DEC INFO >  DEC Notice

Starting in the spring of 2003 Weeks Yacht Yard's policy requires that we must paint all bottoms of boats that or stored or repaired upon our property.  DEC regulations require that marinas must staff professionally state licensed applicators before they are able to apply underwater coatings.  Although customers could technically be allowed to lease space to apply their own coatings, the marina would be responsible for any violations or spills and would incur all fines which range from $5,000.00 to $25,000.00 per day.  Weeks Yacht Yard's policy, like most marinas is that of applying  anti-foulants for all of our customers.

Customers are Allowed to:

bulletPrepare their own bottoms provided they set up a tarp under the boat and use a dust collecting sander.
bulletInstall their own zincs and clean up running gear etc.
bulletPerform all other maintenance to their own boats with members of their immediate families.
bulletContract outside labor (i.e. canvas makers, window tinters, custom work) through the yard office.

Standard Bottom Painting Work will Include:

Environmental Safety and the Law
By law we are responsible for keeping our environment clean and free from paint spills.  Applicators must wear gloves, hats and full shirt sleeves (no shorts) and respirators. Product Safety data sheets must be available and undamaged product labels must be on file.  Applicators must have their license on file.  Weeks Yacht Yard must keep complete records on bottoms painted, paint used, where purchased and the hull number of your boat. All these records are sent to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
Preparation
All boats will be lightly sanded or scraped, or sanded with a dustless sanding system.  Special work preparation for bottoms in poor condition or for racing finishes will be extra.  Water lines are tapped off for straightness.
Finished Product
One complete coat of the paint of your choice will be properly applied to the bottom and cut up to your boot top. Clean up is part of the job
Pricing:  $13.00 per foot includes all the above labor plus all safety, clean up and application materials.  Special rates apply for multi coats.  Paint will be charged as used.  All bottom paints are available at discount prices. Special pricing is available for two and three coat applications.  Call us about barrier coat work and sand blasting.
